With the AMP1 Silver Edition, you can only switch the FX Loop on and off using the REMOTE1. Thanks to the introduction of the Expert Features, however, the AMP1 Mercury Edition and the AMP1 Iridium Edition can be used to activate or deactivate the FX Loop even without REMOTE1.
The FX Loop on these two amps can be switched via MIDI, or without any external tools.
Switching the FX Loop on and off without external tools
If you hold down the middle foot switch [BOOST] for 3 seconds in Direct Access Mode (Standard Mode), you can switch the FX Loop on and off with the right footswitch [REVERB] while the BOOST switch is held down.
The setting selected in this way can be saved for each preset when creating presets. This applies both to the presets on the three internal footswitches of the AMP1, and to MIDI presets that are saved using the MIDI LEARN function and called up using external MIDI controllers.
Switch the FX Loop on and off via MIDI
In a MIDI setup using the MIDI1 adapter, the FX Loop can be switched on and off using CC40. If your MIDI setup cannot send control changes, there is a workaround that you already know from above: remove the MIDI1 adapter, hold down the middle footswitch [BOOST] for 3 seconds and switch the FX Loop with the right footswitch [REVERB] on and off. If you want to save the selected setting in a preset, then reconnect the MIDI1 adapter and save the preset using the MIDI LEARN function.
In this video, Thomas Blug shows us how it's all done:
