Academy Of Tone

The AMP1 has two speaker outputs: one 8 ohms, and the other 16 ohms. If the impedance of the cabinet(s) matches that at the respective output of the AMP1, the AMP1 produces the full power of 100 watts sinus or 150 watts peak.

Occupancy by two cabinets

If you want to use both speaker output sockets at the same time, for example because you want to connect several cabinets to the AMP1, you have to be careful! The only cabinet combination that works without any problems here are two 16 ohm cabs, i.e. the typical rock 'n' roll full stack of two 4x12" cabinets each measured at 16 ohms.

The reason for this is that the two speaker outputs of the AMP1 are connected in parallel and the power amplifier of the AMP1 works at 8 ohms as soon as both speaker outs are occupied.

All other cabinet combinations result in a total impedance of less than 8 ohms due to the parallel connection of the two loudspeaker outputs and are therefore not recommended. In contrast to classic tube amps, the AMP1 does not run the direct risk of breaking if the speaker impedance is too low. However, depending on the playing volume, the power amplifier will generate peaks that can exceed the power amplifier limit of 150 watts. In this case, the overload protection of the output stage switches off the sound for milliseconds.

Connection of a DI box (e.g. BluBOX VSC)

Even if the second loudspeaker output is assigned to a DI box, e.g. the BluBOX VSC, it must be ensured that the power amplifier of the AMP1 then works at 8 ohms. The connected cabinet should ideally be an 8 ohm cab. It doesn't matter whether it is connected to the 8 ohm output or the 16 ohm output of the AMP1 - as long as the other output is connected to the DI box.
