If a footswitch on the AMP1 or REMOTE1 gets stuck mechanically, you can solve this problem yourself without having to open the device and violating any existing warranty! However, we must point out that we do not accept any liability for any damage or malfunctions on the device should you do this yourself.

Recognize the problem

The switches themselves are not the problem at all. Rather, two things come together here:

  • Dirt has got into the spaces between the plastic surround and the switch.
  • The edge of the opening in the die-cast housing in which the bezel sits may have a very small burr that presses the bezel together very slightly. If dirt gets into the spaces between the socket and the switch, the switches get stuck.

Solve the problem

You can remedy this by lifting the relevant switch and its socket out of the housing. You can get under the plastic frame quite easily with a knife or something similar. Please do not use a knife that is too sharp (like a carpet knife or similar), as this could damage the surface of the die-cast housing.
Then turn the AMP1 upside down (so that no burrs fall into the housing) and file the fine burr out of the opening with a file or knife - see the video here for how this is done:

If you want, you can then take the switches apart and clean them and, if necessary, spray dry lubricant spray into them. Usually this is not necessary. When the burr is filed away, the switch itself has enough play that the dirt no longer leads to blocked switches.

Just put the switch back in and (hopefully) you're done! 😊
