BluBOX with amplifiers from other manufacturers
If the BluBOX is used in combination with amplifiers from other manufacturers, questions may arise. We have picked up the most important of them and answered them here:
Does the BluBOX have a load or an ohmic resistance?
No. The BluBOX does not represent a load resistance and is completely neutral in terms of impedance and therefore also in terms of sound to the amp or power amplifier. It can be neglected or ignored with regard to the calculation of the resistance to be connected to an output stage.
Which load box fits best with the BluBOX?
In terms of impedance, the BluBOX is absolutely neutral, so it has no impact on the sound of your power amp. This means that the load box you buy has to function together with the power amp being used, not with the BluBOX. For this reason, we cannot recommend a specific load box for use with the BluBOX.
Can the BluBOX be operated without connecting another cabinet to the external speaker output ("Out") of my combo?
Since the BluBOX does not represent a load resistance, the real question is whether the combo can be operated without a speaker cabinet being connected to the EXTERNAL SPEAKER OUT. As a rule, this is the case as long as the internal speaker(s) is/are connected, because this speaker output is by definition not inevitable and permanent, but only optional. But please ask the manufacturer of your combo to be on the safe side.
Is a load resistor necessary when operating the BluBOX on a classic tube amp?
Yes, this is essential with classic tube amps! Traditional tube amps always need a load, in the form of a speaker cabinet or a load box. Under no circumstances should they be operated without a load, as this can damage the output transformer. The BluBOX does not represent a load resistance: it is a pure DI box with speaker simulation.
Therefore, a load resistor (speaker cabinet, load box) must always be connected to the SPEAKER THRU of the BluBOX when the BluBOX is connected to the SPEAKER OUT of a traditional tube amplifier.
To which loudspeaker output on the amplifier is the BluBOX connected?
The BluBOX does not represent a load resistance, nor does it convert anything. The signal is looped through directly from the SPEAKER LEVEL INPUT to the THRU. In particular, this means that the load resistance that is connected to the THRU must match the impedance that the amp needs.
In other words: if an 8 ohm cabinet (or a load box) is attached to the THRU of the BluBOX, the BluBOX must be connected to the 8 ohm output of the amp. If there is a 16 ohm cab (or cabinet combination) attached, the BluBOX should be connected to the 16 ohm output of the amplifier, etc.
